Happiness Is...........

Happiness is a full tummy and being able to really relax with people who understand.

Nose on the alert for any new smells

Sam is the perfect example. (his shoes smell nice too!)

but a knee is just as comfortable!
I will miss him when he goes back to university!

I understand that Boom is growing fast! (he is the one in front!)

Quite a handsome chap, but do you think that he is actually a SUMD?
Answers on a postcard please!

PS. It seems funny but I have not been in any trouble this week. I wonder how long it will last.
( I did collect all the shoes and boots that were lying around in the porch and heaped them up in the garden but as I did not chew anything it seems that I was forgiven!)

MMMMMMM Tasty

Adam and Jenny came to supper on Monday and they ate the mutton shanks that I thought were for me!Not an awful lot left for a starving Basset!

Lets hope that there are more somewhere!

Thanks for the Birthday Greetings

I went to the vets for my toe nails to be cut but Zoe was not there so Sarah (my favourite) cut them for me. It was fun and I did not make any fuss so I got a special treat afterwards! Zoe came in later so I was able to see two of my favorite people which made my day. I am looking forward to pilling day in a couple of weeks!

My toenails look and feel perfect!

I can sleep with my head under my feet quite comfortably!

My birthday was great! I had cards, emails and even presents! Unfortunately Dad was too busy that day to take any pictures but I have to tell you that for my supper I had braised mutton with gravy and biscuits! It was fantastic and something that I will expect every day for the next year! Anyway thank you everybody who sent cards and emails!

Now that I am a year old I shall have to think seriously about my career!

I hear that they have shortlisted people for the Chief Executive position. I wonder why they did not approach me? If Ernest can be president of the USA I am sure that I could be Chief Executive here. Am I getting ideas above my station?

For all Boom Fans

By popular request I am posting some recent pictures of my Cousin Boom. He is getting to look less like a Basset every day but I suppose we should not hold that against him. We cannot all be perfect!

I have to say that he starting to look like a fine fellow!

intelligent

and a good mover!
I am sure that we shall get on like a house on fire. I shall have to start him thinking about his career very soon. (He could be Governor of West Falkland!)

I'm off to see Zoe (the Vet -my favorite!-) this morning to have my claws trimmed. I can't wait!

Boom

Have just received new pictures of Boom, I think that we can do something with him and once I become Governor. Maybe I could promote him to a position of some significance. We shall have to look out for nepotism though!

I don't think that he will look like a Basset; His feet seem a bit small and the ears are not growing properly.

This is what my brothers and sisters looked like at this age:

However despite all that he looks a fine fellow and I am sure that we shall be great mates! Just like Luca and I

I think I Will Take up Juggling

Adam is back! He looks well and glad to get home. The only problem is that Luca has gone home. He can be a bit of a pest, waking a basset up during the required snoozing time. But I miss him!

I will have to go back to thinking deeper thoughts

and catch up with snoozing while planning how to become Governor.

Sam has promised to teach me to juggle

could be just what I am looking for!

A useful skill for a Governor?

Anybody seen a Police Phone Box?

Back at the beach again today. It is Tom Baker!!

Is that a sonic screwdriver?

He looks as if he is staying
Could Adam and Jenny be coming home in the Tardis?

Only one more sleep for Luca!

More tomorrow!

Can Bassets Swim?

We went to the beach at lunch time today. Luca decided that it was time for me to learn to swim. The problem is that I do not know if Bassets like me can swim! (what happens if I just sink?) I am not keen on cold water anyway even though Luca seems to love it!

Today was a lovely winter's day and we had the beach to ourselves

The sea was blue but looked very cold.

and rough!

That looks scary! With my legs I would be under water!

I decided sitting on the beach and watching was the best thing

So Luca and Sam decided that some fresh water might be best for me

I was not so sure

And I am not prepared to try that until I know that Bassets can float!

But as you can see I did get my belly wet which was a start! (I might just wait until summer to try more)

Great excitement about Adam and Jenny coming back! Luca has only two sleeps to go!

Oh yes and my dad's paw seems a little better!

They are Coming Back on Saturday!!!

Great News, Adam and Jenny are coming back from Chile. Fit and well after five weeks! Luca is really excited and has had a bath already (although I expect he will need another before they get back as he gets so muddy) However he is getting a bit hyper already!
In the mean time my Dad has slipped on the ice and has had very a sore arm which has stopped us from having as much fun as I was expecting. (This two legged walking thing is just ridiculous he just needs to realise that four legs are much easier to balance on!)

I really am going to have to take him in hand!

However Sam has been a great help in keeping me amused!

He really knows what a Basset likes!

Today has been sunny and I was able to relax in the winter sunshine

I am going to miss Luca although I do wish he would not steal my presents that ernest and nm sent me!

However we are great mates really even if he is not a Basset!

Well we must get ready for the big homecoming on Saturday! Even I am getting excited!

While writing I am really going to have to say something to all the SUMDs. What has happened to your table manners since I left.? Eating off plates when offered (rather than nicked) eating off forks that have been licked by people! and worse of all licking BJ. You really do not know where he has been!! That sort of thing did not go on when I was with you! I am disappointed to see that you seem to have forgotten the canine hygiene that you taught me!

Are they not feeding you properly?

Discount yesterday's Blog! Luca is in Trouble!

Despite the fact that Luca wrote that he was behaving, I can assure you that this is not the case!

Yesterday while Dad was at a meeting and we had the run of the yard he escaped more than once and was found outside our fence! Sam found him the first time and the next time he was captured by an old friend who was working just down the road! I did consider a little canine solidarity but could not manage the fence! (Short legs do have their drawbacks sometimes!)

He is now in the Dog House, and I have to suffer as well as I have to keep him company! Dad and Sam are going to make a Luca proof area at the back of the house tonight but in the mean time we are both in the slammer! Sheep Dogs just can't keep out of trouble!

I have some new pictures of Boom to share with you. It appears that his ears are a little bigger but they have a long way to go before they are a proper size! One of these days My dad and I will travel out to the West Falkland on the new ferry to visit him and look him over!

I will keep you updated with the progress with his ears! Does his nose looks a bit short too? However we cannot all be perfect!

Still Waiting for them to come Home!

Luca Here

I have decided to have a go at this Blog thing as I now hear that my Mum and Dad (Jenny and Adam) most probably will not be home this week end either!!

It is killing me having to behave!! This is not something that comes naturally to an active sheep dog! However I am doing my best (and at least I have not eaten any mobile phones! Bassets seem to be able to eat anything!)

Gran-dad told me last night that I was a good dog and was behaving very well. I must have pleased him as he gave me the left over Carbonara for my breakfast My favorite! (I am getting to sound like a Basset! I think that GJ should have been given the left over mobile!)

Still it is fun having GJ to play with and I find that as long as I put him in his place every now and again we get on very well. I think that things would have been different if I had been left to look after Cass (our cat). She can be a bit crabby sometimes. The only problem with GJ is that he suddenly becomes overcome with the urge to sleep just when things are getting interesting.

What is he going to be like at my age?

Any how I am still looking forward to Mum and Dad getting home. I hear that Dad is getting better all the time and will be able to take me for runs every day after he gets home! I shall look forward to that. I shall be his exercise buddy!

Cheers,

Luca.

PS I see that our new cousin (Boom) is actually a part New Zealand Huntaway sheepdog. (not a proper sheep dog -"One Man and His Dog" and all that-, but at least a sheep dog! Will have proper legs for a start!

PPS I have been so long with the General that I think my ears may be a teensy bit longer?
