A friend In need

I have not been able to have a walk today as my Dad has been busy and Uncle Terry has not been well (I think he has been to his VET) so AJ has been too busy to take me out.

However Luca came to visit and we had a splendid time running round the garden even though the weather was cold and miserable. After it got dark he came indoors with me.

Luca is finding harder to pull me around the carpet.
Basset carpet burns are a thing of the past!

The ear thing still confuses him!

We can't decide which we prefer, the sausages or the ragger

Although it is nice to see him it really is exhausting work
I don't think I would like to be a sheep dog. Governors seem to have a much better time.

My Dad has to go to the VET in Santiago next week so I am going to spend some time with Jazz. I really shall have to get my strength up! I can't wait!

Would You Believe it!!

Would you believe it!!

This morning when I looked out there was a vulture eating MY bone!

I soon saw him off, but to add to the insult my dad said that I had to throw it away as he said that it smelled and it made me smell as well! Some people do not understand the finer points of gastronomy!

Oh well back to the kibble.

Liberation Day!

The 14th of June is Falklands Liberation Day, and this year it was the 25th anniversary of the liberation so it is a special year and there are lots of important people here. I did volunteer to meet and greet them all but my offer was declined. There have been lots of special events and yesterday there was a big parade where I think that Adam was doing his usual shouting!

Unfortunately my dad was sick and had to go to the VET so he missed most of it, but Joan and Terry kindly took me out and we had our own celebration!

I will try and post some interesting pictures of the official ceremonies (Adam shouting etc..) when I can get them. However in the mean time this is what I got up to:

AJ and Terry bought me a special hat to wear for the day but the elastic broke and so it kept blowing off!

But I got good at retrieving it!

But I had to hang on tight!

A kelp Tug-o-war was just as much fun!

especially if we pulled together

But AJ did not manage to tempt me into the icy waters!

The only drawback was the bath afterwards!
But I do have to admit that I had got pretty muddy!

I understand that all the school children were given Liberation coins.
I wonder If I will get a Liberation bone?

I Like Cutting up Beef Day!

Today my Dad went to help Adam cut up a quarter of beef, and lo and behold he brought me back a bone!

Luca and I are going for the Guinness Book of records for the bone chewing endurance record. I am not sure about Luca but I have been at it for nearly four hours!

There is nothing like a good beef bone.

Luca's looked pretty good as well but I think he has buried his already!

Now, about the celery thing:

Auntie Joan usually has something pretty good to offer me: a bit of cheese, a Marmite sandwich, a digestive and such like, just what a sharp set Basset needs!, but yesterday she gave me a stick of celery!

Being a well brought up Basset I thought that I should try it, but I have to say that I was not that keen (something unusual in itself!) The strings got in my teeth and it was not that tasty either, however I did my best with it.

I have since found out that you burn more calories digesting celery than it contains! No self respecting Basset would eat anything like that unless it was something tasty like a remote control or a mobile phone! (I believe that there are more calories in a good paperback or a roll of kitchen paper!)

Thanks Auntie Joan, I think I will pass next time.

The reason why this picture is blurred is that I suspect that AJ was laughing!

Right, I must get back to my bone.
(My Favorite!)

PS: After six hours!

(I may have to sleep on it!)

Baths, Sausages and Cameras

Yesterday Auntie Joan came round and gave my dad a hand to give me a bath.

The drying was the best thing!

Today Luca came for the day.
He can't drag me round the room with my string of sausages any more!

Although he still shakes my ears about a bit!

Later Luca had a go with the camera! This is a picture he took of me.

This is his self portrait!
(He does fancy himself!)

Tomorrow my dad is going to help Adam to cut up a quarter of beef. I am told that I am not allowed to help -but then Luca is not either!- But we have been promised big bones. I'm really looking forward to mine! I will post a picture to make you all drool!

I think I need a good sleep after all that exercizzzzzzzzzzzzz......................

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..................................

Tomorrow I will tell you about the celery

It is Pilling Day again!

I can't stop it is dog pilling day again!

I have to go and see Sarah and my new Vet called Zoe!

My favorite day! Cheese, meeting old and new friends.

The VETs in the Falklands Rock! I feel sorry for all you dogs who do not have VETs like mine!

I'm in the Dog House!

He seems really cheesed off!

I only borrowed his last roll of kitchen paper!
(I just love the texture)

It was fun and worth the aftermath

He was really p**d off as he was looking everywhere for it!

(I can't see what all the fuss was about. It was still perfectly usable. I had only unrolled it for him.)

TFI Friday!

It is Friday! Tomorrow we should have a lie in and then lots of walks! They have been a bit short this week as my Dad has been busy with meetings.

Auntie Joan took me shopping and I created a lot of interest from passers by by sitting down and refusing to move for a while (That is the Basset way!) Embarrassed Auntie Joan no end!

Winter is here! Even though I understand that we do not get very much snow in the Falklands, it is pretty cold today! However the beach was great this morning.

Looks like more snow coming

The answer is to keep moving

And keep out of the cold wet stuff!

I'm sure I buried something here

My Dad always wants to go home just when things are getting interesting

If I hide in the long grass he may not find me.

By the way, I didn't mean to imply that the Governor has a tattoo it was just that I had lost count of the facts I was supposed to give you and I thought you should know that I did not get a tattoo when I was in the Merchant Marine. (Senior Watchdog First Class)

I still think I would make a good Governor!
